Ronald Ntombela, a driver for fleet owner Fairfield Longhaul, is the deserving winner for 2022 in the Reefers category of the six-month contest and is driving away with R25 000 in prize money. The broker for Fairfield is Clanfin (PTY) Ltd.
Hollard Highway Heroes is a transformative annual competition that aims to identify and reward South Africa’s best truck drivers. In addition to the five category champions, one overall “highway hero” wins the grand prize of R50 000.
Ntombela demonstrated superlative driving skills for the duration of the competition, which ran from May to October 2022. He and his fellow competitors were monitored using high-tech telematics on total kilometres travelled, not speeding or braking harshly, and not driving excessive hours without stopping to rest during the day or night.
“We’re thrilled to award the Reefers prize to Ronald Ntombela – huge congratulations to him! We’re in awe of his skill and versatility in driving a refrigerated truck while keeping road safety top of mind,” says Elka du Piesanie, Bureau Operations Manager, Hollard Trucking.
Paul Dangerfield, National Operations Manager, Hollard Trucking, adds, “Ntombela has shown us that he’s got what it takes to be an outstanding reefers driver. Very well done to him!”
Dangerfield says Hollard firmly believes because at least 80% of South Africans are active road users as drivers, passengers or pedestrians, anything that improves safety on our roads benefits us all.
“The competition is open to all truck drivers working for fleet owners insured by Hollard and is designed to create a broader awareness of the invaluable role truck drivers play, as well as to promote driving excellence. The idea is for drivers to demonstrate and capitalise on their professional skills.”
The other Hollard Highway Heroes categories are Tankers, Tautliners, Tippers and Flatdecks.
