Hollard Highway Heroes aims to identify and reward South Africa’s best truck drivers, and Kubeka passed this test with flying colours, ticking all the boxes when it comes to driving safely and responsibly. His prize is a cool R25 000 in cash.

His driving (and that of his competitors) was closely monitored for the duration of the competition from May to October, using high-tech telematics.

The entrants were assessed on total kilometres travelled, not speeding or braking harshly, and not driving excessive hours without stopping during the day or night.

“Huge congratulations to Thabani Kubeka. We’re so impressed with his skill and dedication,” says Elka du Piesanie, Bureau Operations Manager, at Hollard Trucking.

“It’s drivers like him that help us live out our business purpose to enable better futures for all,” she adds. “Through the years, Hollard Highway Heroes has had a definite impact on safer driving, with a domino effect on road safety in general.”

Paul Dangerfield, National Operations Manager, Hollard Trucking, says, “Kudos to Kubeka! He’s an example to all the hard-working truck drivers out there, showing that exemplary road behaviour does pay off.”

Dangerfield points out that promoting better truck driving reduces running costs, accidents and claims, and leads to less maintenance and operational downtime.

The Hollard Highway Heroes contest, open to all truck drivers of all fleets insured by Hollard, comprises five categories: Tankers, Tautliners, Tippers, Flatdecks and Reefers. The other category winners are also being announced this week, and the overall winner will scoop the coveted grand prize of R50 000.
