Select Individual Funeral Benefit
 

  • If you are the main insured person, this benefit pays a lump sum when you pass.
  • This cover is only for one person – the main insured person.
  • Cover of R5 000 is included for a stillborn baby born to the main insured person.
  • Only one stillbirth is covered in any 12-month period.
  • Premiums for the Individual Funeral Benefit are payable for life.

Select Partner Funeral Benefit
 

  • This benefit pays a lump sum should your partner pass away.
  • This benefit can only be added to the Individual Funeral Benefit.
  • There is an additional premium payable for this benefit.
  • The cover will be set equal to the Individual Funeral Benefit cover amount.
  • Only one partner can be covered at any point in time.
  • Your partner needs to be between the ages of 18 and 75.

Select Children Funeral Benefit
 

  • This benefit pays a lump sum on the death of your children.
  • The Children Funeral Benefit is available if you have opted for the Individual Funeral Benefit.
  • Cover is provided for a maximum of five children. If one child’s cover ends, another child can be added provided that no more than five children are covered at any point in time on the funeral policy.
  • There is no additional premium charged for this benefit.
  • You can add your children up to the age of 20.
  • The cover amount is set to 50% of the Individual Funeral Benefit cover amount, to a maximum of R20 000.

Select Parents Funeral Benefit
 

  • This benefit pays a lump sum on the death of a parent.
  • It allows for cover for your parents as well as cover for your partner’s parents (if applicable).
  • Your partner needs to be on the same policy and there will be an additional premium per parent.
  • Cover can be taken out for each parent, up to a maximum of four parents on the policy at any point in time.
  • This benefit can only be added if the Individual Funeral Benefit has been taken out.
  • You can add your parents up to the age of 75.

Additional benefits

Airtime benefit

  • This benefit provides a R250 airtime voucher on the notification of your death, as the main insured person, or the death of your partner and up to five children. 
  • No waiting period applies to this benefit. 


Submitting a claim

To submit your claim, send us the following information:

  • Notice of death form.
  • Funeral policy number and ID number.
  • Funeral parlour details.
  • Banking details.

What type of cover am I buying?

You are buying Funeral Cover that will pay in the unfortunate event that one of the lives covered on the policy passes away.

Can I make changes to the Funeral Policy?

Yes. You can make changes to the policy such as adding a family member to the policy, increasing/decreasing the amount of cover and choosing a new beneficiary.

What is a waiting period?

  • It is the time that you will have to wait before you can submit a claim on your policy.
  • If the death of an insured person occurs within the waiting period, the benefit will not be payable.
  • You and your loved ones covered under this policy will be covered for accidental death from the date your first premium is paid.
  • For death due to natural causes, there is a waiting period of 6 months (in addition, 6 benefit premiums must have been paid).
  • For death due to suicide or self-inflicted injury, there is a waiting period of 12 months (in addition, 12 benefit premiums must have been paid).

Will benefit premiums and benefits amounts increase over the years?

  • If you are below 65 then benefit premiums and benefit amounts will increase automatically on your policy. Please refer to the Terms and Conditions on your policy document.
  • These policy increases will stop when you turn 65. For other lives insured on the policy, their benefit premiums and benefit amounts would stop increasing when they turn 65.
  • On rare occasions, we might need to review your policy premium. This means that your policy premium will increase outside of, and in addition to, the normal annual increase to benefit premiums and amounts. This happens because of unforeseen circumstances that increase the cost of insuring certain policies. If a review were to happen, you would be given 31 days’ notice before the increase takes effect.

What are my options if I can’t afford to pay the increased premium?

Who can take out this Policy and who can be covered under this Policy?

  • Any person who is between the ages of 18 and 75 years at the start of the policy; and
  • All covered persons must be South African citizens with valid South African identity numbers.
  • The person who buys the Funeral policy is covered as the policyholder and premium payer.

Covered persons (in relation to you) could be:

  • Spouse/partner (older than 18 years).
  • Children.
  • Adult child (biological, adopted or step).
  • Brother or sister (biological, adopted or step).
  • Niece or nephew (child of your brother or sister or child of your partner's brother or sister).
  • Aunt or uncle (brother or sister of your parents or brother and sister of your partner's parents).
  • Cousin (child of your parent’s brother or sister or the child of your partner’s parents’ brother or sister).
  • Grandparent (parent of your parent).

How long will the cover last?

  • The Funeral policy provides cover for the insured persons from the date of commencement of their benefit for the whole of the insured person's life (excluding children), or
  • For as long as you pay the premiums, and/or until you pass away.
  • A child’s cover will end when they turn 24 (terms and conditions apply).
  • A child covered as an Extended Family Member will be covered until they turn 21.

Do I have a 'cooling-off' period?

  • Yes. You may cancel this policy by giving us notice within 31 days from the day you receive the policy documents.
  • If we have not paid a benefit or no insured event has yet occurred, we will refund all the total premiums paid, less the deduction of costs for any benefit cover provided.
  • You can call us on 0800 935 465 should you wish to cancel your Funeral policy.

How long does it take for a claim to be paid?

Approved claims are paid within 48 hours on receipt of all supporting documents.

"You" refers to the policyholder who is also the main insured person on the policy.
"We" or "Us" refers to Hollard.
